Kemptville District Hospital Board receives Economic Development Award

Wednesday June 27, 2012

Rousseau and guests with the Bill Thake Award

Kemptville District Hospital Board received prestigious Economic Development Award after being nominated by the Municipality of North Grenville’s Economic Development Committee. The United Counties of Leeds Grenville presented the Bill Thake Economic Development Leadership Award to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Chair of the Kemptville District Hospital Board at the recent Leadership Forum held on June 14, 2012. KDH Board Chairman Rousseau accepted the award on behalf of the entire Board of Directors.

The Bill Thake Economic Development Leadership Award celebrates volunteers from across Leeds Grenville whose leadership and innovation have resulted in the growth and vitality of the local economy. The Board oversaw a multimillion-dollar expansion of the hospital and emergency department, launched the new Total Joint Replacement orthopedic surgery program, which led to a $7.8 million increase in the local payroll and also welcomed the Beth Donovan Hospice to set up shop in the former Emergency Department area as their new home.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau has been a member of the Board for seven years and was pleased to see Kemptville District Hospital being recognized for its leadership at the County level. He also shared his intense pride for the hospital staff. Rousseau noted that the Board members, being residents of the area, look for ways that they can help make their community happier and healthier. The Board also has a key focus on ensuring that hospital personnel are satisfied and look forward to coming to work, all of which play a key role in building a strong foundation for North Grenville.

Colin Goodfellow, CEO of Kemptville District Hospital, added, "This award underscores the importance of local governance and reflects great volunteer leadership and commitment to building healthier communities."
