Unprecedented Development Activity in 2010
Wednesday July 21, 2010Category: News Letter
In early April the North Grenville Economic Development Committee sponsored an Information Breakfast for local real estate agents and those involved in the development industry. Participants were provided with a snap shot of the development activity anticipated to take place in North Grenville in 2010. This included the completion of the Kemptville and District Hospital expansion, the construction of the new North Grenville District High School, a major expansion at St. Mikes Catholic High School, a new North Grenville Library in Old Town Kemptville and the being of development at Kemptville Colonnade at the corner of County Road #43 and the 416, consisting of Staples, Scotiabank and Walmart. In addition, it was projected that the North Grenville would experience a 25% increase in new home starts in 2010. Since April, there have been additional announcements that put North Grenville on track for an unprecedented level of development activity in 2010. In May, Canadian Tire Corporation announced that they would be starting construction of a new 75,000 square foot store in Kemptville Colonnade in July. As well, 2010 will see the construction of a new Tim Hortons, an A & W, and TD Bank, all on the Kemptville Colonnade site. On the residential front, the most recent figures demonstrate that North Grenville will likely surpass the 25% increase in homes predicted early this year. As of the end of June, the number of new home starts was 80% above the level for the same period in 2009!! This article appeared in the July 2010 edition of the G&G News.
